3. Matters Arising: This meeting was called to seek the views of Villagers on the proposed site of a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) by Nuclear Waste Services (NWS). As of today (30 January 2025) NWS are looking at a suitable site which is to the South West of Gayton-le-Marsh Wind Farm and Great Carlton.
Parish Chairman informed those present that NWS had held a roadshow at the Village Hall. The intention was to seek the views of those present at the meeting, whether they are in favour or not of the proposed GDF site. A statement was submitted to the Parish Chairman on behalf of a resident, in respect of the NWS/GDF site. Most of the residents present at the meeting, voted against the proposed site. Parish Chairman mentioned that as not all the residents of the village were present at the meeting, it would be fairer that all residents should be given the chance to vote on this matter, via a voting slip.
Action, Parish Chairman and Clerk to organise this, and distribute same as soon as possible to residents. A draft resolution was read out to those present by the Parish Chairman, and this would be part of questions in the voting slip.
Cllr Hesketh spoke to the meeting and summarised the results of ballots held where NWS held their roadshows. So far, those balloted were against the proposed GDF site. That NWS suggested that those in the affected area are not fully aware. A suggested action plan was discussed. Various maps were made available to those present to show the scale and size of the GDF site.
Cllr Hesketh suggested to those present to contact the County Councillor, ELDC, LCC, and the MP for the area, to voice your concerns and views. The meeting was informed that NWS are proposing to drill a bore hole in 2026.
4. AOB: Parish Chairman suggested that committee be organised in relation to the NWS proposed GDF site. This was proposed by C Marsden and seconded by A Chambers. Great Carlton, a neighbouring village who will also be affected by the proposed GDF site, to be contacted on our proposal of a vote from residents and forming a committee.
The Parish Chairman and Clerk thanked those residents from the Village who attended the meeting, that there was a good turnout.
